Kidney / Pancreas Transplant Overview
A kidney/pancreas transplant surgery involves one surgery where both organs-given by a single donor- are transplanted into a patient who is experiencing kidney failure resulting from Type I diabetes. Currently, the Florida Hospital Transplant Center does not consider Type 2 diabetics appropriate candidates for kidney/pancreas transplants.
If you have Type 1 diabetes and are interested in a kidney/pancreas transplant, you will need to complete the same application and evaluation process that" kidney only" patients do. The difference will be in your physician evaluation. When you meet the transplant physicians, you will be examined and your records will be reviewed for appropriateness of candidacy for a kidney/pancreas transplant. Please note: there is not a separate application for our kidney/pancreas program. For more information please visit patient referral.
